How long have you lived in the area and what made you fall in love with it?
I’ve been living in Sabinillas for more than 16 years, I’m originally from Northern France and moved to Andalusia with my parents when I was 14 years old. The climate along the coast is a reason in itself to move to the area, in my opinion. The sunny autumn and winter months make it feel as though there is a microclimate around Sabinillas and La Duquesa, it often feels warmer than some other areas along the coast. There are also some fantastic beaches in and around both towns.
In your opinion, which is the best golf course in the area and why?
I would say Finca Cortesín, it really is a world-leading course. All eyes were on the golf club this summer when it hosted the international Solheim Cup 2023 – the King of Spain was spotted in the audience on the last day, and the European team beat the US so there was a great jovial atmosphere. It’s also previously held a few other key international competitions, including the Volvo World Match Play Championships for several years.
What is your favourite adventure activity in the area?
My guilty pleasure is riding my motorbike on the magnificent winding mountain roads above the coastal towns. In the mountains, the “pueblos blancos” (white villages) are known for their beauty, history and vibrant culture – Casares and Gaucin are two which are definitely worth visiting. If you fancy a day trip or weekend staycation a little further afield, the fabulous mountain town of Ronda is just an hour away, and there’s Granada too, with the must-visit Alhambra palace which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, only just about two and half hours away.
