Estepona
Estepona, town in the province of Malaga on the Costa del Sol.
Estepona has long been a favourite seaside resort for Spanish families. Every August the town’s population multiplies with an influx of people escaping the torrid heat of the inland cities of Spain. They arrive from Madrid, Seville, Cordoba, Jaen and Granada.
The town is also home to an ever-increasing number of expatriates from northern Europe and is increasingly being seen as a holiday destination by tourists from Britain, Scandinavia, Germany, Belgium and eastern European states. So why is Estepona becoming a favourite destination?
Due to its natural environment, surrounded by the sea and the mountains, Estepona has a micro-climate with over 325 days of sunshine per year. Hence why Ii is a popular resort and holiday destination, renowned for its beaches, which stretch along some 21 km of coastline.
The town has a bit of everything. From botanical gardens, to a brand new Olympic athletic stadium, an orchidarium and several shopping streets with coloured plant pots adorning the cobled streets.
You will find streets lined with bars and restaurants offering local dishes and some exploring traditional tastes with a modern twists, even fusion restaurants are starting to become more popular.
Estepona Port and Marina is a working fishing port offering restaurants and bars. The port features daily auctions for a wide variety of seafood. The port is also the location of the Estepona street market – a collection of stalls selling numerous textile and leather goods mostly – held every Sunday giving the whole place a lively buzz.
