Which sports would you recommend trying in the local area?
Padel is one of the must-try sports in Spain, and here in the local area, we’re lucky to have some great spots to play such as Los Reales in Estepona, ‘El Octogono’ Padel club in Sotogrande and the Racquet Club in Villa Padierna. Because of the incredible microclimate in the area, other outdoor activities are popular – lots of people take advantage of the outdoor pools in their urbanisations for many months a year too. There’s also a beautiful seafront to jog along, and for the more adventurous – rock climbing, trekking and hiking in the hills surrounded by the diverse scenery throughout the seasons.
What is your favourite local tradition to celebrate?
San Juan probably, it’s in the evening on the 23rd of June. It celebrates the start of summer and there is just always an incredible atmosphere. Sabinillas, as most beachfront towns on the coast, has a fantastic effigy each year and a bonfire on the beach, there’s delicious food and drinks – “espeto de sardinas” (sardine skewers) are a must-try, and if you dip your feet in the Mediterranean at midnight, it’s supposed to bring good luck for the year ahead!
Is it a good area for people with children or pets to move to?
Andalusia is famous for being family-friendly, wherever you go there tend to be play areas for children and restaurants which cater for all of the family. It’s very pet-friendly too, the majority of complexes welcome cats and dogs. The beaches and long seafront walkways are great for walking dogs too and the local community is very friendly and welcoming.
